Disposable gowns in different sectors

Disposable gowns are an essential garment in various sectors such as healthcare, beauty, the food industry, laboratories and even education, where safety and hygiene must be ensured.

As a single-use product, it is recommended not to wear disposable gowns more than once, as incorrect or prolonged use would reduce their effectiveness. In addition, when putting on the gown, the user must take care not to stretch the product beyond its limits, as this could tear the fabric or elastic.

Material of disposable gowns

When choosing a disposable gown, it is important to understand that the material it is made from plays a key role. Disposable gowns can be made from up to four different fabrics:

• Polyethylene

Although commonly known as plastic, polyethylene is more precisely a polymer that stands out for its waterproof properties. For this reason, gowns made from this material are recommended for use in humid work environments or tasks involving contact with liquids. These disposable gowns are frequently used in Laboratories, Chemical Industries and the Food Industry.

• Non-Woven Fabric (NWF)

Non-Woven Fabric is a material produced by forming a web of fibres bonded through different processes, without being woven and without needing to convert the fibres into yarn. These gowns are suitable for various settings, such as industrial environments, visits to sterilised areas, food production facilities or areas prone to contamination. They are also commonly used by patients in healthcare settings or by clients in the beauty and hairdressing sectors.

• Non-Woven Fabric (NWF) Polypropylene

This material consists of a basic fabric of polypropylene fibres mechanically bonded together. Disposable gowns made from this material protect the user and their clothing from possible soiling by solids and liquids, while also preventing the user from contaminating the products they handle. They are commonly used in Laboratories, Food Industries, Workshops, Hospitals, Beauty Centres and Hairdressing Salons.

• Non-Woven Fabric (NWF) SMS

This fabric is composed of three layers: a Meltblown layer sandwiched between two Spunbond layers. It is a strong and durable material; disposable gowns made from it act as a barrier between the user and their clothing against various fluids and particles. It is also antistatic, resistant to mould, breathable, lightweight and resistant to tears and punctures.
