Cellophane bags

Cellophane bags are made from cellophane, an artificial polymer derived from cellulose. Among their properties, they are transparent, flexible and resistant to tensile stress.

Currently, cellophane bags are no longer widely used and have been replaced by biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) bags, a variant of low-density polypropylene. Unlike cellulose, this material provides an excellent barrier against moisture, oxygen, contamination and harmful chemicals.

On this page, when we refer to cellophane bags, we mean bags made from biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP), as these are the types currently demanded by the market when looking for this kind of bag.

Choose the right size

One of the advantages of cellophane bags is that they can be manufactured in a wide range of shapes and sizes. However, we generally distinguish between these two main formats:

Large cellophane bags

Large cellophane bags are used to wrap products of considerable size, from a soft toy to a Christmas hamper filled with food and drink.

The strength of cellophane helps preserve the product as best as possible, reducing the risk of deformation and providing full protection against dirt, water and other liquids.

Small cellophane bags

Small cellophane bags are often used for assortments of products or for bulk display.

Thanks to their transparency, customers can clearly see the contents inside, which makes them especially appealing.

What are our cellophane bags like?

Cellophane bags are a versatile and popular choice in the world of packaging. Their ability to resist wear and tearing makes them a very practical option for product presentation. Here are their main characteristics:

Transparent cellophane bags

These are the most commonly used. The transparency of their finish is perfect for better showcasing the product inside and allowing customers to evaluate their purchase with greater confidence.

Cellophane bags with adhesive

Cellophane bags can also include various decorations and additional features. The adhesive allows for a perfect seal, helping to better protect the product and transport it safely without the risk of spillage.

Cellophane bags with gusset

Thanks to the gusset, these cellophane bags have greater capacity, making it possible to include many more items than in other types of bags.

Some of their most common uses

The practical uses of cellophane bags are virtually endless, mainly thanks to their strength and durability. However, in the market, they are mainly used for two purposes:

Cellophane bags for gifts

Cellophane bags allow you to wrap gifts with all the protection you need. Despite their transparency, they offer a spectacular presentation, making the product inside look especially attractive.

Cellophane bags for sweets

Sweets, nuts, confectionery and similar food products often use this type of bag for bulk display in specialised shops.
